This checker gives a broad estimate only and is not legal, tax or financial advice. It uses the rules in the Finance Act 2026: a nil rate band of £325,000, a residence nil rate band of £175,000 tapered above £2 million (both frozen until April 2031) and a 40% rate. It does not take account of lifetime gifts, trusts, business or agricultural relief, charitable gifts in your will or the reduced 36% rate.
